Observational Hindsight
Observational Hindsight: This is a much more effective and validating version of “I told you so.” “I told you so” by itself in validates what we were feeling at the time of the incident, whether it turns out we were right or wrong. We can observe what would’ve been the I told you so outcome in such a way as to gain more confidence for a desirable outcome the next time something similar should happen. We should watch that this one doesn’t turn into us saying to ourselves that we shouldn’t feel the way we are feeling because we know it will work out in the end. Again, choose wording effectively.
Tricking the Brain: Our Minds Are Incredible Machines
Tricking the Brain: Our minds are incredible machines. We can use parts of it to trick other parts into doing what we want it to do. It doesn’t have to turn into a battle of will power. If the part of us that needs gratification thinks it’s gotten it, we may be home free. For example, you’re sitting at a delicious buffet. You came in very hungry. You’re trying to moderate your food portions, because you want to lose weight. But it is so good, and you are so hungry, you make the decision to go up for seconds. You’re going to fill up the container as much as possible because it’s so good and you want to feel really full. So you get up to go up for seconds, and walk right out of the store instead. It’s amazing that this works. The part of the mind that needs that gratification received it by the rational part of the mind making it believe it did. You can probably come up with brain tricks of your own to get yourself to do what part of your mind wants to do, but that is a battle of will to make happen. New Meetup Group
For those in the Central NJ Area, I have started a meetup group, where I will be doing live talks/workshops each month. Each will be a topic, such as mindfulness, emotions management, breaking through emotional barriers, and motivation. The goal is for our desired emotional state to come naturally, not by being forced.
If you are outside of the area, you can join via teleconference.
You may sign up for my group via this link…
